Volunteer Diaries: Meet Dheera

“Spreading hope is the most valuable contribution one can make”, says Dheera Konduri, a volunteer with Youngistaan Foundation since 2020.

Dheera joined Youngistaan Foundation on Women’s Day and performed a street play about gender equality and people who broke gender stereotypes. She has been associated with Youngistaan Foundation’s Gender Equality Program and Cyber Congress ever since.

“I did not join Youngistaan with the aim of doing any and every volunteer work. I wanted to educate myself through their programs and initiatives, and I thought of this as an opportunity to not just volunteer and make a difference, but also learn something and gain knowledge. Unlike others, I don’t think a lot has changed about me in the last two years. I have been educated more than I have been changed. So I am still the same Dheera, but one who has learnt sensitivity, empathy and social management and grown academically and socially through Youngistaan Foundation’s programs.

There is a moment I will never forget that made me immensely happy. During a live event for our Gender Equality Program, we decided to interview successful women entrepreneurs. There was a group of village women, all home-makers, who manufactured cloth handbags. Listening to those women describe their journey in Telugu and seeing their unwavering commitment was very empowering.

I think one thing you will not see in today’s youth is doing something without hoping to receive anything in return. We are moving towards a ‘give-and-take’ world. In times like these, doing something for people who can not even imagine good things happening to them is what everyone should do. This gives them a message that there is still kindness and selflessness in the world which they can hope for.”

Dheera has made an indelible mark as a volunteer with Youngistaan Foundation. She has worked actively and has created awareness among the masses by using her creativity. For your enthusiasm, willingness to keep learning new things and empowered spirit, we salute you Dheera
