BACKGROUND
Road accidents remain a significant public safety and public health concern across India, affecting children, youth, and families alike. Rapid urbanization, increasing vehicle density, limited awareness of traffic rules, and unsafe road behaviours continue to contribute to preventable injuries and loss of life. Recognizing the importance of early awareness and behaviour change, Youngistaan Foundation works towards promoting responsible road usage and safer mobility practices through education, community engagement, and youth participation.
OUR ROAD SAFETY PROGRAM
Youngistaan Foundation works with schools, colleges, and communities to build awareness and practical understanding of road safety and responsible road usage. The program focuses on encouraging safe behaviour among pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists while promoting respect for traffic rules and shared responsibility on roads. Some of the key areas covered include:
-
understanding basic traffic rules and road signs
-
pedestrian safety and safe road-crossing practices
-
importance of helmet and seatbelt usage
-
responsible driving behaviour and risk awareness
-
road safety awareness for adolescents and first-time riders
-
understanding the impact of speeding, distractions, and unsafe driving practices
-
encouraging youth to act as road safety ambassadors within their communities
Through interactive sessions, discovery walks, awareness campaigns, and collaborations with institutions and stakeholders, the initiative promotes behaviour change and community ownership of road safety practices. The program encourages young people to identify risks within their environments and participate in creating safer school and community spaces.
BENEFICIARIES
The program primarily engages school students, college youth, adolescents, and young people from underserved communities. Educators, volunteers, and community stakeholders also benefit through increased awareness and capacity to promote safer road practices within their environments.
OUR IMPACT
Guided by the 4Es of Road Safety — Education, Engineering, Enforcement, and Engagement — Youngistaan Foundation’s road safety initiatives focus on strengthening preventive awareness and responsible behaviour among young road users. Through school and community-based engagements, participants develop practical understanding of safe road practices and contribute to awareness within their families and neighbourhoods.
By encouraging youth leadership, community participation, and early awareness, the initiative aims to reduce risk-taking behaviour and contribute to safer and more informed communities over the long term.
